 Ankle
I have to decide whether to have an ankle fusion operation on my left ankle. Is it possible to contact a patient who has already had this operation? What are the chances with the stiffened joint a) of being free of pain b) of being able to walk at all reasonably.
I am 69 years old and up to now have been very mobile. At least one year ago I had an injection in the arthrosis-damaged joint which resulted in sepsis and an emergency operation. The arthrosis damage was considerably increased. I would be very grateful for a reply.

ankle fusion operation Answer: Ankle
Dear Mr U.,

Generally one can walk with a stiffened joint well and without pain, which means almost without limping. If necessary walking can be helped by an alteration to the shoes (a heel-toe walking appliance on the sole of the shoe).

Yours sincerely,

Dr. med. S. Böll
