Dear Mrs K,

It means that the transverse processes of the lowest lumbal vertebral body are united on one or both sides with the sacral bone, which in general does not lead to complaints. However if only one of the two bones is united without a firm fusion this can lead to a so-called false joint formation which can cause problems. An X-ray picture
or a magnetic resonance scan usually sheds more light on the matter.
