 Sciatica?
In the course of the day I get a pain at the side of the left calf which sometimes goes down to the ankle. The pain is directly under the skin. When I touch this area it feels like a hardened strand of muscle. The pain is also noticeable in the posterior (upper thigh joint). I have been to an orthopaedic surgeon. L4-L5 are not so good. I doubt if the reason for the pain is a slipped disc. I have no back pain and am totally supple. I am 71 years old.

sciatica Answer: Sciatica?
Dear Mr D.,

I would recommend a magnetic resonance scan. This would enable the discs as well as the adjoining nerves
to be assessed. An appropriate therapy could then follow.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. med. R. Schneiderhan
