 Thermocoagulation
In September 2000 my wife (73) was diagnosed as having lumbar stenosis L4/5 with spinal claudication. In January 2001 an inter-laminectomy of the L4/5 was carried out on both sides. The severe pain decreased only negligibly. In the mean time 4 injections have been carried out on an out-patient basis and 2 in hospital. There was no improvement. What are the chances of success with the thermocoagulation?

thermocoagulation heat probe treatment Answer: Thermocoagulation
Dear Mr L.,

Before carrying out a thermocoagulation,an infiltration in the small vertebral joints or the adjoining nerves should take place using image-intensifying equipment. If there proves to be no improvement of the complaints, it is likely that there will be no improvement with the heat probe treatment. However, if the infiltration brings about a short term improvement of the complaints (if only for a few hours) the thermocoagulation using a heat probe is a promising method of treatment.

Yours sincerely,
